Bernice J. Mann 86, of Main Street, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday (August 7, 2013) shortly after arrival at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.



Born in Belfast, Feb. 13, 1927 the daughter of Glen and Ida Dolph Madison, she had resided nearly all her life in the Wellsville, Hornell and Canisteo areas. Bernice was a graduate of Wellsville High School, Class of 1944, and had been employed as a clerk at the former Fishers Grocery, and Wilkinson's 5 & 10 both in Canisteo. She was employed as a bookkeeper at the former Canisteo Furniture and Appliance as well as the former First State Bank in Canisteo.



She was a member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church where she had served as treasurer for several years. She was a member and past matron of both the former Greenwood Chapter, Order of Eastern Star as well as the Jasper Chapter #652, Order Of Eastern Star where she had also served as chapter treasurer. She was a member of the Canisteo Grange as well as the former South Hornell Grange, a trustee of the Greenwood Cemetery Association where she had also served as secretary/treasurer. She was active in the Greenwood Community, was former tax collector for the Town of Hartsville, as well as Tax Collector for the Greenwood School District.



She was predeceased by 4 sisters, Infant Evva Mae Madison, Flora Lounsberry, Blanche Gulliver and Alice Layfield Herland, 2 brothers, Taylor Madison and William Madison and her son Donald Mann in 1995.



She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Lloyd Mann of Greenwood, 4 daughters, Connie Mann, Judy (Jim) Cheney of Utah, Laurie (John) Cheeseman of West Bloomfield, and Carol Mann of Greenwood, 2 sons, David Mann of Greenwood and Terry (Patricia) Mann of Andover, 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews.

Honoring Bernice's wishes there will be no calling hours.. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday (Aug. 17, 2013) at the Greenwood United Methodist Church. Pastors Dan and Peggy Knopf will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
