Barbara E. Swain, 64, of 2772 Swain Hill Rd., passed away Tuesday (November 3, 2009) at her home following a long illness.



Born in Hackensack, NJ, May 15, 1945, the daughter of Robert J. and Doris J. Smith, she moved to Dansville about 1950, and later to Swain. She was a graduate of Dansville Central School , Class of 1963 where she played clarinet in the High School Band and received the Music Medal Award for her participation. She had been employed at the former W.T. Grant Store and Rapid-Gro Corporation both in Dansville, Keshequa Central School in Dalton and Wilson Beef Farms in Canaseraga, as well as the Swain Ski Center. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fawcett American Legion Post # 1582 where she served as Chaplain for 3 years. Her hobbies included reading, gardening, attending flea markets, building and furnishing miniature houses, crafts, quilting and needle work, traveling and attending country & western concerts. Barbara will be remembered for her love of all animals; dogs, cats, horses, cows, sheep and pigs.



She was predeceased by her Mother.



She is survived by her husband, James Swain, her daughter, Connie Dalrymple of Oneonta, her Aunt and Uncle, Raymond and Vivian Ebe of Poughkeepsie, 2 grandchildren, Ben and Will Dalrymple.



There will be no public visiting hours. Family and Friends are invited to attend a service on Saturday at 1 PM at the Larger Parish Church in Canaseraga, Rev. Jesse Flint officiating. Burial will be in Canaseraga Cemetery.
