Barbara L. Freeman, 64, of 2873 County Route 70-A, passed away Tuesday (February 23, 2010) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
She was born in Hornell, October 15, 1945, to birth parents, Harry & Ida (Swan) Harding. In February 1948, she was adopted and raised by her loving adoptive parents, Clark & Anna (Woodcook) Garner who predeceased her. Barbara attended Canisteo Central School, graduating in 1963. She lived in California during her young adult life, returning to the Canisteo Valley area in the 1980's. Barbara was employed at St. James Mercy Hospital from 1985 until her death.
She enjoyed watching television, was an avid reader, enjoyed family gatherings, dining out and shopping. Her greatest pleasure was watching her grandchildren, especially, Jared and Sarah , grow up and spent as much time as possible with them ; saving their cards and drawings as momentos throughout the years.
She is survived by her husband, Roger E. Freeman, who she married October 30, 1985, two daughters, Luvae Nickaboine of Minnesota, Patti (Jerry) Spanganberg of Pittsford, Step-daughter, Tammy (Chris) White of Fremont, Step-son, Troy Freeman of Hornell, 5 grandchildren, Sarah and Jared Spanganberg of Pittsford, Patricia and Cassandra Guzy of Minnesota, Alex (Amanda) Reetz of Washington, 3 step-grandchildren, Shaun and Brandi Boyle of Fremont, Debra (Brian) Avery of Indiana, 2 great grand daughters, Arihanna and Emma Guzy of Minnesota, Step great grand daughter, Jasmine Avery of Indiana, five brothers, Robert (Liz) Harding of Andover, David (Linda) Harding of Canisteo, Roger (Nancy) Harding of Hornell, William Harding of Hornell, Brian Harding of Bath, 2 sisters, Sue (Gary) Powers of Hornell and Dolores Andrus of Hornell, one special foster sister, Annajean (John) Upham of Oregon, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The family will be present to receive friends Saturday from 3 PM until 5 PM, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell where funeral services will follow calling hours at 5:00 PM, Rev. Donald Maynard officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception in Barbara's memory at the Canisteo Wesleyan Church, 25 Greenwood Street, Canisteo, NY immediately following the funeral.
