Alice Maxine Schoonover, 72, of

14 Third Street, passed awaypeacefully Thursday (May 10, 2007) at St. James Hospitalfollowing a short illness.



Born in Delhi,LA., April 28, 1935, the daughter of JesseCecil and Mary Odell McCartney Smith,she had resided in Canisteo since 1967. She had been employed in the formerMontgomery Ward's Catalog Store in Hornell, as a bookkeeper for Salvatore Meu and Clark's GulfService, an accounts payable clerk for the former SKF Industries and in thebookkeeping department for Southern Tier Express prior to her retirement in1997.



She was a member of the First United Methodist Churchin Canisteo. On July 1, 1955, she married GeraldSchoonover who predeceased her in 2004.She was also predeceased by her parents, her step- mother Prairie Hodde Smith and one nephew, OlanGlenn Bryan.



She is survived by her daughter, Kerry Brooke (Schoonover)of Greenfield, Mass., her son, Richard (Anne) Schoonover ofBinghamton, her grandchildren, David and Amy Schoonover, her sister, Laurine (Morris) Barnett of West Monroe, LA., brothers,Edward (Lina) Smith of Aurora, Colorado, and J.C. (Liz)Smith Jr. of Downsville, LA, nieces and nephews, Karen Lynn (Ken) Casey ofPelham, Alabama, Terry Lane Bryan of Oceanside, CA., Keith Edward (Johnice) Barnett and Scott Randall Barnett, both of WestMonroe, LA., Roxanne (Shane Seegers) Smith of Doensville, LA, Marie(Bruce) Dudgeon of Austrailia,and Laura (Brian) Page of Denver, Colorado, as well as many beloved friends.



The family will be presentto receive friends from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Tuesday at the Brown &Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo.Funeral services will be held onWednesday at 2PM. at the First United Methodist Church , Greenwood Street, Canisteo,NY. Rev. Ray Shaw will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery,Canisteo.
