Albert J. Coddington "AJ or Uncle Al", 94, of Hill St., passed away Tuesday (March 13, 2012) at home.



Born in Hornell, August 28, 1917, the son of Bert and Ethel (Dayton) Coddington, he had resided in the Hornell area all his life. Albert served in the Company K during the war and in his early years he drove for the Hornell Wholesale, and then worked for the Erie Railroad retiring from Foster Wheeler Corp. in Dansville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing with his sons, camping and traveling. After retirement Al liked mowing his lawn in his "tractor" and each winter he would spend time planning out the next year's garden. It would be overflowing with tomatoes, peppers and flowers. Forever a dog lover he was never without at least one for his adult life. His last years, he had constant companionship of his "babies", his three Pomeranians.



In addition to his parents Al was predeceased by his wife; Beverly Jean Dunn Coddington in 2007, daughters; Marilyn Coddington Whiteman and Patti Ann Coddington, brothers; "Harold" and Robert Coddington, sister; Kathleen Stewart



He is survived by three sons; Joseph (Beverly) Coddington of Sparta TN, Thomas (Karen) Coddington of Arkport and David (Lisa) Whiteman of Hornell, two daughters; Joyce Coddington of Hornell and Terri Coddington Hunt of Hornell, sister; Ruth Hawkins of Tucson AZ, special cousin; Jenny Mulikin of Hornell, 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 21 great great grandchildren, special niece; Ethel North Irish, several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends from 4Pm until 7Pm on Friday (March 16, 2012), at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11Am at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
