Albert S. Arno, 88, of 195 North Main Street, passed away Sunday (May 15, 2011) at his home.



Born March 15, 1923, the son of Theodore and Jessie Craig Arno, he had resided in Hornell for more than 70 years. He had been employed as a construction worker for A.L. Blades in Hornell for several years, and later as a bus driver for the Hornell Area Transit. Al served his country as a member of the US Navy during WW-2. He was a member of the Hornell American Legion Post, the Moose Lodge and AMVETS;



He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Mary A. Baumgarten Arno in 1995, his son, Ronald Arno and his brother Allen Arno.



He is survived by 4 daughters, Sharon (Roy) Bossard of Kansas, Sandra Gardiner of Colorado, Bonnie Arno of Hornell, and Karen (James) Burritt of North Hornell. 4 sons, Alan (Gail) Arno of Shortsville, Daniel Arno of Hornell, Kenneth(Susan) Arno of Virginia, and Keith (Susan) Arno of Brockport, 22 Grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces & nephews.

The family is very grateful to the Bath Veterans Administration for all the services and care provided to Albert during his illness.



The family will be present to receive friends at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM where Funeral services and military honors will be held on Thursday at 10 AM with Rev. Marion Luce officiating. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell.



Friends may make memorial contributions to: World War II Veterans Memorial Trip, % Ladies Auxiliary of the Hornell VFW Post 2250, 245 Canisteo Street, Hornell, NY 14843. or to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830. Contribution envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
