Agnes O'Dell Garner DeKay, 90,formerly of Canisteo, went to be with the Lord on Friday (January 18, 2013) in Mesa, Arizona. She was born in Jasper, May 9, 1922, the first born of nine children of Frank and Della Jackson O'Dell. She lived primarily in the Hartsville/ Canisteo area until relocating to Arizona following her husband's retirement. She was a very creative and ambitious homemaker who always welcomed company with a smile, a wonderful sense of humor and some homemade goodies to eat. Her favorite saying was "Life is short, so eat your desert first." She loved to fish and play games such as rook and bingo. She worked part time at the former Crandall's Jewelry, as well as Loohn's Cleaners and the Steuben County Department of Transportation. After relocating to Arizona, she attended college and became a Registered Dietician , working at Citadel Care Center in Mesa.



She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Chester DeKay, step-children, Jimmy DeKay and Margie Cummings, her sisters, Gladys Willis and Delores Smith, as well as her brothers, Francis and Ronald O'Dell.



Surviving are her children, LaVerne Garner of Canisteo, Lowell Garner of Alabama, Phyllis (Bill) Gardner of Canisteo, Linda (Ralph) Brewster , and Marlene(Trini) Bojorques, both of Arizona, 19 Grandchildren, 33 Great Grandchildren, and 28 Great Great Grandchildren, her brothers, Carl O'Dell of Hornell and Gerald O'Dell of Idaho, her sisters, Beverly Miles of Hornell and Paula Brizzee of Wellsville, step-children, Pat Wilcox of Bath, Judy (Butch) Sprague of Texas, Phillip(Charlotte) DeKay of Painted Post, Scott(Bonnie)DeKay and Joseph(Kathy)DeKay both of Cameron.

The family will be present to receive friends on Friday from 11 AM until 1 PM at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce Street, Canisteo where funeral services will follow calling hours at 1 PM. Rev. Beverly Welch will officiate. Burial will follow in the O'Dell Family Cemetery. A reception will follow the funeral at the Canisteo American Legion. Friends are asked to bring a photo or favorite story of Agnes.
