Lena Davis Carnes, "The Ole Cowgal", 80, of 5088 PurdyCreek Road, passed away peacefully Friday (April 28, 2006) surrounded byher loving family, at the home of her daughter, Debora Clothier.
Born in Town Of Canisteo, July 14, 1925, the daughterof Floyd and Myrtle Barnes Davis, shewas a lifelong resident of the Canisteo area. She had owned and operated the"Carnes Country Store" in Hartsville until its closing in 1963. She had beenemployed at the former Newberry's Store in Hornell, Loohns and Up-To-DateCleaners, and for several years, was a school bus driver for the Canisteo School District. Lenawas an avid cowgirl and rodeoenthusiast, and owned and operated theCircle C stables in Hartsville for 28 years.She played an active part in the development of the Western Horsemen inthis area . She was a member of the Kanistio Valley Riding and Driving Club.Lena and her late husband Leland "Bus" Carnes received an award for longestparticipation in Leo Gee's Double E Rodeo in Nelson, PA. In addition , she was a member of theCanisteo Grange and the Pomona Grange. Lena will be most remembered for the love of her familyand the open arms she had for all children in need, especially those on herschool bus route.
She was predeceased byher parents, her husband , Leland "Bus"Carnes in 1992, her son Ricky Carnes aswell as her brother Robert Davis and 2 grandchildren, Cevin and Corina Carney.
She is survived by two daughters: Dianne(Roger) Carney of Hartsville, Debora Clothier of Canisteo, three sons: Robert (Connie) Carnes of Colorado, Gene (Nora)Carnes of Hartsville, Jeffery(Donna) Carnes of Hartsville, two sisters: Udolphia "Dolly" Frakierand Joyce (Douglas) Marshall both of Bath, Sister-in-law, ErmaCarnes of Ithaca, 7 Grandchildren, Sonya(Jim) Bailey, Tammy Lynn (Don) Dilts, Tamara Clothier, Tonya (Mike) Cooper,Shay (Kim) Carney, Drew Carnes, Tim Carnes, 6 Great Grandchildren, Cody Bailey,Erin Bailey, Katelyn Dilts, Garrett Dilts, Justin Kerr, Garrett Cooper, nieces& nephews.
