Ella M. O'Dell, 74, of 4861 State Route 248, passed away Thursday (December 31, 2009) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville.
Born in the Town Of Canisteo June 10, 1935, the daughter of Lowell and Mabel Covell Butler, she had resided in Canisteo most of her life, except for a 2 year period when she resided in Mesa, Arizona. She had been employed as a house cleaner for several area businessmen and as a home health worker, caring for many people in their homes, including Edward Beckerman of Hornell. She had been employed prior to that at Comstock's as well as Bird's eye.
Ella enjoyed sewing and stitching, crossword puzzles, gardening and her flowers, especially African Violets, and catering special events. Ella will be remembered for her love of her family and grandchildren and especially for "Ella's Fudge".
She was predeceased by her parents, her daughter, Becky Eveland, brothers, Charles, Glenn and Newell Butler, her husbands, Richard Shinebarger, Alfred Renwand, Ronald O'Dell, and her long time companion, Edward Partridge.
She is survived by her daughters, Betsy (Tim) Hawkins of Elba, Betty (Tom) Henry of Canisteo, her sons, Robert (Sandra) Shinebarger of Canisteo and Raymond (Mary) Shinebarger of Arkport, sisters, Ida Hults of Hornell, Mary Butler Campbell of Canisteo, Ethel Sanford of Canisteo, Blanch (Glenn) Campbell of Rexville, Shirley (Robert) Ross of Port Jarvis, her brother, Duane Butler of Cameron, several step-children, 12 Grandchildren; Dale (Diane) Shinebarger, Jeremy (Nicole) Shinebarger, Jason (Jessica) Shinebarger, Joseph (Donna) Shinebarger, Shannon Rublee, Jeffrey Eveland, Elizabeth Eveland, Marc (Elizabeth) Eveland, Johanna Hawkins, Steven Hawkins, Michelle Henry and Matthew Henry; 15 great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews.
The family will be present to receive friends from 4PM - 8PM Sunday at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo and on Monday from 1 PM - 2 PM followed by the funeral service at 2:30 PM, Rev. Donald Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.
