Gladys M. Prouty, 86 formerly of Canisteo passed away Tuesday (October 25, 2011) at McAuley Manor in North Hornell.

 

Born in Hornell, April 4, 1925 the daughter of Frank and Harriet (Woolever) Gordon, she was an lifelong area resident. In addition to being a housewife, Gladys worked at the Texas Café as well as at the former Marion Rohr in Hornell. She loved being a grandmother and great grandmother. Gladys also loved her country music.

 

She was predeceased by her parents as well as her husband, Robert N. Prouty, one daughter, Linda Henshaw, one son, William Prouty, two sons-in-law, Randy Plank and Al Wilder, two sisters, Bessie Gordon and Isabelle Winters, three brothers, Miland, Edward and William Gordon.

 

She is survived by four sons, David Prouty of Fl, Robert Prouty of Taberg, Tim Winters of VA and Donald Winters of Webster, five daughters, Judy Plank of Bath, Mary Prouty of Canisteo, Pam Prouty of Bergen, Gloria Wheatcraft, and Deb Winters of Almond, son-in-law, Stephen Henshaw of Arkport, three sisters, Marilyn Gordon of Hornell, Thelma Winters of Alfred Station and Elsie (Howard) Jamison of Perry, two brothers, LeRoy (Harriet) Gordon of Burns and LaVerne Gordon of Hornell, 23 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends on Friday (October 28, 2011) from 2Pm until 4Pm at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St. Canisteo, NY 14823. A Memorial Service will be held at the conclusion of Calling Hours at 4Pm.
