Frederick G Bedford

 

            Dayton, Tenesee

 

Frederick George Bedford, 91, of  Dayton, TN, formerly of Hornell went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday (August 5, 2010) at his home at the Courtyard in Dayton. He was born October 2, 1918 in Williamsport, PA, to the late Tom and Ethel (Foulk) Bedford. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Barbara Marie (Booth) Bedford.

 

Fred lived in Hornell until moving to Dayton in 1973. He received his Bachelors degree at Houghton College and Masters degree in Middlebury College in Vermont. Fred taught French and Spanish at high schools in Houghton, Hornell and Bryan College in Dayton. Fred served his country during World War II with the US Army in the European Theatre. He was a member of the Morgantown Baptist Church in Dayton and the Hillside Baptist Church in Hornell, where he had served as trustee, deacon, and Sunday school teacher. 

 

He is survived by his wife Mayme (Kerley) Bedford of Dayton, sons Tom (Carolyn) Bedford of Hornell, Frank (Barb) Sheddan of Evensville, TN, daughters Barbara (Herman) Posey of Hixson TN, and Beverly (Bruce) Hatch of Emory VA, brother in law Jay Paul Christian of Williamsport, PA, sister in law Elizabeth Booth of Pittston, PA, 7 grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces, and nephews.

 

Funeral services in Tenesee were held on Friday at the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton. The family will also be present 11am-12pm Monday, at the Hillside Baptist Church, where funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. George Bailey officiating.  Burial will be in Hornell Rural Cemetery, Hornell.

Remembrances

I extend my condolences to the family. Mr. Bedford was my French teacher many years ago at Hornell High School. He  was such a pleasant, kind person and a great teacher. 

 

I remember Mr. Bedford well, we were real close for a number of years going to the same church. I send my heartfelt condolences.
